Ambassador Meron Reuben served as the fifteenth Ambassador of Israel to the United Nations from September 2010 until June 2011.
Born and raised in South Africa and the United Kingdom, respectively, Ambassador Reuben made aliyah (immigrated to Israel) in 1974. Fluent in Hebrew, English, and Spanish, he completed his military service in the Israeli Air Force as an air traffic controller and subsequently received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in diplomacy and international relations from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
In 1988, Ambassador Reuben joined the Foreign Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, initially working on European Affairs and for the Department of Public Diplomacy.
In 1991, Ambassador Reuben served as First Secretary of the Israeli Embassy in Santiago, Chile. Upon completion of his tenure, he received the Order of Bernardo O’Higgins, a prestigious distinction awarded to foreign citizens by the Government of Chile. In 1995, Ambassador Reuben served as a Minister at the Israeli Embassy in Mexico City, Mexico.
Upon returning to Israel in 1997, Ambassador Reuben worked as an advisor in the Diaspora Affairs Division, as well as in the Palestinian Affairs Division of the Ministry.
From 2000 to 2002 Ambassador Reuben served as Ambassador to Paraguay and from 2002 to 2003, he served as Ambassador to Bolivia and non-resident Ambassador to Paraguay. In 2004, Reuben returned to Jerusalem where he worked as an adviser for Latin American and Caribbean Affairs. From 2007-2011 he served as Israel’s Ambassador to Colombia.
In addition to his extensive work in Israeli diplomacy in the Americas, Ambassador Reuben also served from 2004 until 2007 as Director of the Department of Planning and External Relations of MASHAV, Israel’s international development cooperation program.
Ambassador Reuben is the father of two daughters, Jen and Liad.
