Madame Under-Secretary-General,

Israel is honored to take part again in this High-Level Conference on the Central Emergency  Response Fund. We would like to express our appreciation to you, your team, and OCHA for the  essential work that you carry out every day on the ground.

CERF is a vital mechanism for carrying out effective and comprehensive responses to emergency humanitarian disasters. It offers an important model for how to deliver aid to those who face extremely difficult odds in the context of disasters. CERF helps all nations and all victims of disaster, providing timely, effective, and reliable humanitarian assistance across the globe.

This year we saw again that humanitarian disasters know no boundaries. Such disasters struck in all corners of the globe, including in my country. Just this month we witnessed a tragic fire on Mount Carmel in Northern Israel, which claimed more than 40 lives, destroyed homes, and burned more than 50,000 dunams of forests.

As a result of this tragedy, Israel –– a long-time donor to disaster relief efforts –– became the recipient of such aid. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many Member States that assisted my Nation in combating this tragic fire for their generous acts of solidarity and friendship.

Madame Under-Secretary-General,

During the past year, Israel has provided both personnel and essential supplies to disaster stricken areas throughout the world.

Israel continues to develop expertise in disaster response and management, sharing these practices with the international community. In addition to its contributions to CERF, Israel operates emergency services on a bilateral basis, deploying rapid response, emergency search and rescue, and medical teams in our region and around the globe.

Madame Under-Secretary-General,

Israel fully supports guiding principles and activities of the CERF. As such, we have contributed to the fund since its establishment, and we will contribute to it this year.

Thank You.
